I enjoyed Dunmore’s “first” book, Bringing the Duke down; Now this recommendation makes me a solid fan. Warning, don’t go to bed with it on a weeknight!
The first is history. I love learning about pre-20th-century consequences in the form of a highly entertaining story. History, effort, law. Letters from married women killed me.
However, Rogue was a burning hit even without all those layers. One can read it for stinging romance alone. Tristan’s steady enthusiasm, his cute personality, everything points to Lucy, always Lucy.
And Lucy, “shrew?” Is this the way to tame the shrew? Not really. That is not a domestication. It is a page about a passionate woman who has many passions, including a passion to end the suffering of her mothers and sisters and, ultimately, a passion for Men want more from life.
Social norms still keep women in their place. I am so lucky to have my own Tristan, who sees, listens, and wields my sword, who, better yet, protects me so I can do so.
