Ines of My Soul is a literary fiction book by author Isabel Allende.
A passionate epic of love, freedom, and conquest, based on historical events by the New York Times best-selling author.
Though born into poverty, Inés Suárez, a tailor in 16th-century Spain, embodies the restless hope and opportunism that fueled the nation’s conquest of the Americas. Miss.

Her changing husband is gone, Inés uses his disappearance to start her own adventure. The journey will lead her to Pedro de Valdivia – a conqueror who became Chile’s first royal governor – and to a love that not only changed her life but also history.

This is not my favorite Allende book but I am going to Chile soon and remember reading it many years ago so was asked to help me understand the development context of the country. It is perfect to do that. It clearly shows the terrible cruelty of Pizzaro and his brothers towards the Incas and the rest of the Indians as well as the bravery and/or greed of the soldiers who joined the leaders. conquer this land.

It’s a pretty gripping story as well as the story of Ines, the Spanish woman, who travels to the desert in search of her missing military husband who abandoned her and eventually becomes the first lady of Chile. It is filled with painful wars between the Indians and the Spaniards, stories of courage and cruelty and stories that are too shocking to be true. Overall, this is an excellent book, especially if you’re interested in the history of the area.
