Klara and the Sun A Novel

Klara and the Sun is a literary fiction book by author Kazuo Ishiguro.
This wonderful novel is a fascinating perspective on the role of artificial intelligence in our future…a poignant reflection on love and loneliness.
This is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with excellent observational abilities, from his position in the store. She carefully observes the behavior of those entering to browse and of those passing by outside. She still hopes that a customer will choose her soon. Klara and the Sun is a thrilling book that offers a look at our changing world through the eyes of an unforgettable storyteller. The book explores the fundamental question: What does love mean?

1. There are no lovable characters other than the “robot” AF Klara. The young woman who adopted her, Josie, was actually quite indifferent to Klara and most of the time treated her like a device. At one point, she seemed fine as Klara lived in the closet for a while.
2. Klara’s mission to save Josie is never questioned by the 2 people she recruits to help her even though the law must be broken to complete it. She simply asks them to trust her and they go along. Won’t you ask a few more questions before agreeing to commit a crime?
3. Klara is not very smart when it comes to AF. Wouldn’t her creators put some knowledge of the world and the Universe into her system if she were to be around people and be able to tutor children and teenagers?
4. The style is very bland and the lines are sometimes awkward. There is a scene that takes place in a diner that is worth watching. The plot lines go on but never end, the characters are never added, and the ambiguity of many key plot points becomes extremely frustrating.
