Ruthless People  – Ruthless People, Book 1, Audiobook Online By: J. J. McAvoy

To the outside world, they look like American royalty, donating to charities, feeding the homeless and rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors lies a constant battle for dominance between two bosses, cultures and hearts.

Ruthless People is a romantic crime novel set in modern-day Chicago that follows the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan – blood rivals and leaders through fear. Their marriage was arranged by their father in hopes of ending years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians. Liam believes he’ll get a simple-minded wife, someone he can control, someone who’s always going to meet his every need… the complete opposite of Melody.

She knew exactly what he was like and would rather die than give up the power she’d spent her life building. The mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses hunting them down, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work together to take down those who stand in their way.

I can’t remember the last time I liked a book this much. It’s both sexy and funny, and you really can’t stop. I finished it in one day. My only complaint is that the reader reading Mel’s voice doesn’t match my vision of her sound, but he’s so talented with every other voice that it’s easy to get lost in the story. Do yourself a favor and buy this book!

I like it when the narrators really have the characters’ voices. I was a bit nervous because it was only a male narrator and I knew this book was viewed from two perspectives but Joel Froomkin blew all my expectations away. He did his best with emotion in his voice and he did every accent down to the T. I can say that this narration is one of the best.
