Injuries are a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the traumatic aftermath of war; one in five Americans is sexually abused; a quarter grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s leading experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma actually reshapes both the body and the brain, compromising the ability to achieve pleasure, attachment , self-control and trust of people with the disease. He explores innovative treatments – from neurofeedback and meditation to sports, drama and yoga – that offer new avenues for recovery by activating the brain’s natural plasticity. . Based on Dr van der Kolk’s own research and the research of other leading experts, The Body Keeps the Score reveals the immense power of our relationships to both hurt and heal. – at the same time giving new hope to regain life.

Wow. This book opened my mind and brought to an understanding of myself and the people around me in a way I never thought possible before. Bottom line for me: everything matters. The body doesn’t forget anything, no matter what our brains try to do to help us cope with life. Really worth listening to for me. I would like to thank the author and his years of research for bringing this work to light.
