Bronson Pinchot is a masterful storyteller as the narrator of this book. His ability to interject the right emotions in his performance separates him from the rest. It seems like he has improved from the first book because some of the shortcomings are not in this audiobook.

In this book, the deadly hunt continues as the hunters become the hunted. It was just five days ago that North Korea detonated three nuclear warheads over the rival country United States. As the attack occurred, it generated an electromagnetic pulse that crippled the lifeline of the country. Another attack decimated the nerve center of America as the nation’s capital got flattened. As the country descended into chaos, people had to decide how far they were willing to go to protect the people they loved.

Police Chief Colton and Charlize Montgomery find themselves in unique situations of their own. The chief has to maintain order in the town of Estes Park with the help of Raven Spears and pilot Nathan. Charlize is the newly appointed Defense Secretary who is caught between loyalty to the country or love for her son. When they discover the state of Colorado in despair, a simple rescue mission turns into a life-threatening chase.

Smith creates realistic and relatable characters in a brilliant setting. We find ourselves rooting for these characters in a dystopian world, where hope is a secondary thought, but still necessary.
