Brunetti was forced to investigate, put off leave and investigate this unexpected incident. When Casati goes missing one morning, the story turns to darkness, the story continues to involve the investigation of Casati’s disappearance. Did Casati commit suicide? Was that an accident? Is it murder?
This book also speaks to the beauty of a city that is centuries old. Locked in time but forced into the modern world, Venice is a magical city with ancient methods of crime and mercenary like all cities. The book, along with the characters led by David Colacci, makes the story more realistic, with a happy ending. Friend loved events and plots that were logically concluded.
This is one of Leon’s fascinating Brunetti books. It is more personal and obviously more sincere of the observer watching the devastation of her favorite city and area.
