Edinburgh is a beautiful book by author Alexander Chee.
12-year-old Fee is a shy Korean-American boy and newly named leader of the first sopranos in the local boys’ choir. Fee knows how the director treats the people who lead his part. He was so embarrassed that he didn’t say anything about the abuse, even if Peter, his best friend, was next.
When the director is arrested, Fee tries to forgive himself for being quiet. When Peter took his own life, Fee only blamed himself. He slowly built a new life, teaching near his hometown. He meets a young student who is a painting of Peter and is forced to confront a past he believes has disappeared.
