I Escaped from Auschwitz is a wonderful and emotional book by an Auschwitz survivor.
April 7, 1944 – This day marks the successful escape of two Slovak prisoners from one of Nazi Germany’s most notorious and heavily guarded concentration camps. The escapees, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, fled more than 100 miles to be the first to give detailed and vivid descriptions of Auschwitz’s atrocities.
Vrba details his life before, during and after he escaped from his 21-month internship at Auschwitz. Vrba and Wetzler manage to evade the Nazi authorities who are hunting them and contact the Jewish council in Zilina, Slovakia, informing them of the truth about the “unknown destination” of the Jews. deported across Europe.
