Memoirs and Misinformation is a literary fiction book by author Jim Carrey, Dana Vachon.
New York Times bestseller

Meet Jim Carrey. Sure, he’s a hugely successful and beloved movie star, steeped in wealth and privilege — but he’s also lonely. He’s tried diets, masters, and cuddles with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to dispel the cloud of emptiness and boredom. Even the wise advice of his best friend, actor and dinosaur skull collector Nicolas Cage wasn’t enough to pull Carrey out of her slump.

But then Jim meets Georgie: the ruthless ingénue, the love of his life. And with the help of auteur screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, he has a role in a new boundary-pushing picture that could help him discover a whole new side of himself — ultimately, the car. his Oscar car!

Memoirs and Misinformation is a brave semi-autobiographical novel, a deconstruction of humanity. Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon crafted a story about acting, Hollywood, agents, celebrities, privilege, friendship, romance, addiction to relevance, fear of personal obliteration, “a spirit of personal obliteration,” our great soul”, Canada and a catastrophic end to the world – the apocalypse inside and out.

I have always been a fan of Jim Carrey and that extends to his recent philosophies.
In choosing to read this book, I assumed I would be introduced to another development of Jim’s life, a kind of embellished autobiography. However, I never imagined what the journey would be like, and was thoroughly amused, laughing out loud one minute, and feeling deep longing and anguish the next.
It’s truly a winding journey into the self, with a few embellished stars popping up along the way that make you laugh but also wonder how much embellishment really needs.
In the end, if Nicolas Cage is shown close to the real him, I wouldn’t be surprised at all because the Nic Cage in this book is so glorious.
