Maggie Crozat, owner of historic Cajun Country B&B, loves to let the good times pass. Tough times rocked her hostel when a new mobile app made it easier for locals to rent out their spare rooms to tourists. As October and Halloween approached, she devised a cunning witch marketing plan to attract visitors to Pelican, Louisiana.
Five local plantation B&Bs host “Pelican’s Spooky Past” packages, featuring regional crafts, unique menus, and pet costume parades. The derelict Dupois Cemetery is a suitable mausoleum setting for the macabre play Resurrection of a Spirit. All the witchcraft definitely suggested something: her B&B guests were scared to leave town at the sight of the legendary rougarou, a werewolf and vampire hybrid.
At Dupois cemetery, someone dressed as rougarou happens to be on stage in the play – and quickly abandoning the ghost, the rougarou mask has been poisoned with strychnine, Maggie is on the case. But as more murders pile up, Maggie fears that Pelican’s ghostly past is nothing compared to its bloody present.
