Redemption (AmBw Romantic Suspense) is a good book by author kenya Wright.
A slow love story about two broken people with one goal of survival.

Yoshiro escaped a criminal career with the mafia after they killed his family. For five years, he gave up his life. All he wants this Christmas is to be alone. Then Ebony and her children accidentally crash into his property during a snowstorm. For three years, they had been on the run from her husband, who was more of a monster than a man.

The storm arose. They are forced to stay with Yoshiro until it dies. And the threat from Ebony’s monster remained, lurking in the shadows and threatening her safety. But Yoshiro knows all about death and blood. Her monster did not frighten him. What terrifies him is a feeling of warmth bubbling up between them. The more time Yoshiro spends with Ebony, the more she becomes a Christmas present that he desperately wants to open. Too bad she made a promise to herself that she would never let another man into her life and her children again.

However, sometimes the best Christmas gifts come from a bullet. Usually, a good Christmas miracle is a body cut to end the nightmare. And even better, at the right time, two lonely people can find light in their dark souls and open their hearts to a new romance.

I really liked this book. It’s definitely a book by Kenya Wright with fun, violence, mess and, of course, love. The artwork also enhances the book. I liked that it wasn’t forced, the couple worked together and there was no pretense to pull them apart. The book also addresses a sensitive and unfortunately pervasive issue, domestic violence, and sometimes it’s hard to get away from an abuser. It also shows how it can be a generational issue.

I like that there are no forced race issues with friends and family. A few things I didn’t like, how quickly things started to evolve. I felt completely remote that children and a woman who had been on the run for so many years could be so comfortable and at ease with such a stranger after a few days. The whole breakfast conversation around them killing the father made me cry. The kids are only 13, 10 and 8. Honestly, a lot of the dialogue that seems a bit adult comes from the kids. I am frustrated by the lack of information about his deceased wife and their shared life.
