Ron Fawcett Rock Athlete The Story Of A Climbing Legend – Audiobook Online By: Ron FawcettEd Douglas

Ron Fawcett is a born climber. In 1969, while still at school in his hometown of Yorkshire, he was first tied to a climbing rope and immediately hooked. Since that time, nothing else seems to be as important in his life as his next vertical fix.

Ten years later, Fawcett is the most famous rock climber in the UK and among the best in the world, being part of a new wave whose dedication to coaching has transformed. the sport, pushing the standards further and faster than ever before – or since. His legacy of new climbs ranks him among the best in the sport’s history. He was also the first person to style himself as a professional mountain climber, starred in the landmark TV documentary Rock Athlete, and appeared on the covers of magazines around the world gender.

But instead of enjoying fame, Fawcett found the pressures of the limelight to be too much to bear, and by the late 1980s, he was fading. Now, for the first time, he tells the extraordinary story of how his love of nature and the outdoors has grown into a passion for climbing that has brought him to the top – and almost like swallowing him. Winner of the 2010 Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature.

If you are interested in rock climbing/cobblestone/just Ron! then read this book.
A great insight into earlier days or Ron’s life/career. As the first ‘professional’ climber, it’s great to read how he found his way and made a living. I see this man often around Sheffield climbing the wall…. legendary. Still mustered up the courage to get him to sign a copy for me.

One of the most honest biographies I have read. Although considered a mountaineering icon, Ron is humble, has a warm heart and is a true lover of nature. Climbing is just one aspect of who he is and this book encapsulates that brilliantly. In this age of over-hyped climbing egos, Ron’s story helps us to realize the true origins of climbing.
