Figuring out the truth will take some quick talk – and a faster gun.

Susannah Calhoun has always had the ability to seduce her way into anything she wants.

But when she’s arrested for a murder she didn’t commit, she realizes there’s no sweet way to get her out of the case. The victim was the brother of an American senator, who requested that Susannah be tried in his hometown of Denver. He even summoned a US marshal to make sure she got there.

Field Marshal Jedidiah Brown reluctantly accepted the assignment as a favor for a friend. He knew Susannah’s troubles from the way the sparks fired the first time they met, but he didn’t believe her to be the killer. When a mob of lynchmen kicked her out of prison and attempted to hang her, Jedidiah realized he had to buy time to prove her innocence.

Chased by the man who will see Susannah die, the road to Denver is fraught with peril as they search for witnesses who can vindicate her. Alone time on the road brings them closer than ever, but the witness proves elusive, and Denver looms on the horizon – the end of a journey that could end in love. Or the gallows.

Loved this story as well as the first, I can’t wait to start the 3rd book in the series. The characters are developed brilliantly. The narration is done perfectly, I will definitely look for other Joe Arden books to read.

I liked this book very much. The author has a writing style that embraces the reader completely in this moment. Moments that include romance, as good as book one, but also a murder mystery are AWESOME. The best part is the cross-state adventure these two go on. The author builds the tension slowly and combines it with a vivid story about fear of being chased and fighting for your life better than any action book. My heart skipped a beat while pursuing her and I literally cried when she was caught. I guessed who-dunnit but not why, so it was a nice surprise. Great read. I think this author is one of my new favorites.
