The Messenger / The Messenger, Book 1 – Audiobook Online

“The Messenger” is the first book in a science fiction series co-authored by Terry Maggert and J.N. Chaney. The novel follows the story of a man named Gunnar, who is forced to become a messenger in a futuristic society where faster-than-light travel has been developed. Gunnar delivers messages across the galaxy on a sentient spaceship called the Chimera, which has a unique connection with its passengers. The ship’s AI, an intelligent and sarcastic creature named Nadine, helps Gunnar navigate challenging situations and dangerous missions. As Gunnar delivers a message to a remote planet, he discovers a conspiracy that threatens the entire galaxy. With Nadine’s help, Gunnar attempts to stop the conspiracy and save the people he’s come to care for. Throughout the novel, Maggert and Chaney explore themes of loyalty, friendship, and trust, all set against a backdrop of science fiction technology and space travel. The book is full of action, adventure, and unexpected twists that keep the reader engaged. It sets up the series for further exploration of the characters, world, and ongoing conflicts.

Dash never asked to be a pilot, but fate had other plans.

On the run and running out of chances, he guides the ship and his crew into the heart of a relic older than the galaxy itself – and finds himself on the brink of an eternal war that will never end he never knew existed.

A relic is a machine, lost in history and forgotten by all that remains. Crafted by an ancient race to be the ultimate weapon, this machine is capable of unspeakable destruction and its discovery could upset the balance of power in the known space.

Worse still, A.I. inside the machine tells of an ancient evil that will soon appear – a race whose power surpasses anything humanity has ever witnessed.

Only Messenger can fight them, A.I. told its new pilot. Only you can do what has to be done.

Good first book lovely characters. The story development is a bit slow and sometimes jumps because the universe is the background of the world. But even though I put it down when it slows down, overall it’s a good story. Will try the second in the series to see if the characters stand out more as they are the best aspect of the plot.

The Messenger by J. N. Chaney and Terry Magert is the first novel in a new space opera series. So far, I have never been disappointed with any work from Mr. Chaney’s ever -evolving concept house. Whether it’s the adventures of a sly star pilot, a Holmsian Galactic Alliance sheriff, or a dystopian future nightmare (and there are many other great examples to choose from) Mr. Chaney always brings literary products.
Joining Mr. Chaney is science fiction and fantasy novelist, Terry Magert. The two created a new universe of ancient races in war and the relics they left behind, and the next race to gain control of those relics. All of this lies in the shadow of the impending return of a race that seeks to destroy all races with advanced technology. With nuances of Mass Effect, the thrilling action of Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Shogun Warrior-style machines, Chaney and Maggert introduce readers to a new, exciting universe to venture into. I look forward to more adventures with Messenger as the series goes on.
